BCS Championship Preview 2008-09

The Florida Gators and Oklahoma Sooners are set to square off for the BCS Championship. Both teams enter with one loss each, but both have proven they deserve to be in this game. Utah completed their perfect season after beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, but the Utes did not face the grind over the course of the entire season that Florida did in the SEC and Oklahoma did in the Big 12. Texas beat Oklahoma, but failed to produce the style points equal to what the Sooner accomplished. USC finished with one loss as well after knocking off Big 10 Champion Penn State, but the Trojans failed in the style point category as well. Like it or not, style points mean a lot in college football. Although these three teams were all deserving to play in this game as well, the BCS got it right with Florida and Oklahoma.
Now that we got that out of the way lets begin the complete preview for this matchup. Florida had a great year only having the one blemish at the hands of an underrated Ole Miss team. The Rebels beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. The Gators won the country's toughest conference and beat top tier teams like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and Florida State. Oklahoma's one loss came to rival Texas. The Sooners managed to surpass Texas later though when the Longhorns fell to the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Oklahoma never looked back. They then obliderated Missouri in the Big 12 Championship on their route to the BCS Championship.

The Florida Story
The Gators have one of the country's top offensive attacks lead by QB Tim Tebow. Tebow won the Heisman Trophy last season and finished second in the voting this season. He has an array of weapons including Percey Harvin, Jeffrey Demps, Chris Rainy, Louis Murphy, and Brandon James. The Gators have so much speed and athleticism. Five players on this roster run less than a 4.4 40-yard dash. Urban Meyer implemented the spread offense when he arrived a few seasons ago, and now has all the weapons he needs to run it to perfection. Tebow is so versatile at QB and is a threat passing and rushing. His leadership and competitiveness just make him even mo! re of a threat to the Oklahoma defense. Percy Harvin his #1 w! eapon is banged up and if he is unable to make an impact the Gators could be in trouble. Tebow does have Rainey, Demps, and James to use like Harvin, but none can be him. The Gators defense is one of the best in the country lead by LB Brandon Spikes. The Gators have a great front and the secondary does very well in coverage. Sam Bradford will have his hands full with this bunch.

The Oklahoma Story
The Oklahoma Sooners have lit up opponents all year and QB Sam Bradford won the Heisman because of it! . Bob Stoops understands you need style points to climb the rankings and after that loss to Texas Oklahoma seemed to put up over 60 points every week. This offense is the best in the country lead by Bradford. Oklahoma has a great rushing attack consisting of Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray. Both backs rushed for over 1,000 yards. Juaquin Iglesias had over 1,000 receiving yards on the season. The defense feels disrespected and is ready to play with a huge chip on its shoulder. The Big 12 defenses are said to be weak and overrated. Oklahoma is out to prove that the defenses are solid. The Big 12 offenses are the best in the country making the defenses look suspect. The Sooners seem to be the big underdog in this game and this could be used as motivation.

Prediction
I expect this game to be a great one, potentially the greatest championship game in the history of college football. Two of the games best coaches in Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops. The two best quarterbacks in college football in Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow and one of the most exciting players, Percy Harvin. This game I expect to be in the 40s or high 30s. Both offenses will thrive despite the solid defenses. I picked Oklahoma to win the championship in preseason and I am sticking with them. Bob Stoops always loses the big games, not this year. He's ready to solidify his legacy and the Sooners are out to prove that college football is not all about the SEC. Florida will play fantastic, but the Sooners will be even be! tter. Tebow and Bradford will put on an offensive show. The difference maker to me is Percy Harvin and I do not believe he is healthy. I think Harvin is unable to contribute a lot and this opens the door for the Sooners. The Oklahoma Sooners will win the BCS Championship.
